Hope Solo is a patriot.
Not only did the charismatic keeper help raise the profile of soccer around the United States, but she has decided to further her commitment to her country by cleaning up late-night television.
For years, we have been subjected to George Lopez's brand of comedy, as TBS continues to force his show upon the masses. Solo made an appearance on the show, and in what I can only assume was Lopez's idea, he tried to take David Letterman's entertaining segment to another level.
When Solo and her teammates were in New York, they tried to kick soccer balls into moving New York City cabs, with the keeper emerging victorious. Lopez, being the clown that he is, thought it would be fun to have Solo kick them at him as he sat in a dunk tank.
Eventually, Solo, who used to be a forward at one point in her career, nailed the lever, sending Lopez into the tank. I can only speak for myself, but I like to believe that a nation openly wept tears of joy at the sight of Lopez floundering in the tank.
Adding glorious insult to injury, Solo posed in front of the soaked Lopez, mocking him the entire time.
You would think that this would be the lowest point of Lopez's career, but you have to remember, he had a role in Beverly Hills Chihuahua, and of course, Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2.
When you hit rock bottom like that, there is no further depths you can sink to as a comedian.
If only Solo's kick had knocked Lopez off of the airwaves, but alas, Lopez will be back at it every night, giving America sub-par comedy that makes us roll our eyes.
At least we'll have this one shining moment to watch over and over again.
