Goodman League Basketball 2011: Latest News, Schedule and Summer Highlights
NBA summer leagues that would usually be taking place are being put on hold, given the status of the NBA lockout. Luckily for us, we still get to watch the Goodman League and Drew League, two leagues with a streetball background.
The leagues are channeling major star power. The Goodman league features heavy hitters like Kevin Durant, John Wall and Ty Lawson.
The Drew league is home to Brandon Jennings, James Harden and JaVale McGee, among others.
The NBA may be in turmoil, but that doesn't mean we have to go without watching NBA titans clash. As players flock to Europe, the best showing of NBA caliber competition is going to be right here in the US when the Goodman League takes on the Drew League in an epic summer battle.
The game is set to take place in Washington D.C. on August 20th in what is being built up as an East vs. West showdown.
This star power involved and the atmosphere of the league should make for a fun and exciting game. It's going to allow for die-hard fans to get their basketball fix, much better than watching a few snippets of a Deron Williams game in Turkey.
The event will be streamed on The Basketball Channel

Kevin Durant Takes His Talent to Dyckman Park for Night Game
Kevin Durant has had some fun playing streetball during the NBA Lockout and has been taking his talents to Pro-Ams throughout the country.
He decided to make an appearance at the Dyckman Park Summer League for a little late night basketball.
Camera phones were in rare fashion when Durant got the ball everyone wanted a video of his next sick move.
It came and it was in the form of a crossover and baseline drive to the basket. Michael Beasley thought he could take Durant one on one so Durant had to put Beasley in his place.
Durant crossed him up and drove straight to the basket for a one-handed tomahawk jam.
Durant is one of the most impressive players in the world, if not the most impressive. He has incredible length and can play anywhere on the court. He is solid on the defensive end and is incredible on the offensive end.
If the NBA lockout continues, maybe Durant should join the AND1 streetball tour for a while and we can really see him showcase his streetball abilities. Watching Durant go up against a streetballer like Hot Sauce would certainly be interesting to see and would likely draw a ton of fans to the arena or park.
Durant will be suiting up for the Goodman League in a battle of all stars against the Drew League on August 20th in Washington, DC.

Kevin Durant Adds to Playground Legacy, Scores Another 41
After going absolutely berserk and scoring 66 points at Rucker Park, Kevin Durant lit up another street-ball game the following night, dropping 41 points.
The Bulls' John Lucas was on the opposing team and scored a whopping 60 points, but it was Durant's three with 5.7 seconds remaining that sent his team to overtime, where they eventually went on to win 146-143.
Durant just might be the best street baller in the entire world. Regardless of the rules, venue, structure or audience, Durant can flat out ball. He's got the build, athleticism and game to take over any basketball game he is inserted into.
Night in and night out, Durant performs. He's obviously not involved in street-ball games like this one to soak in the glory. He's there to have fun and play basketball.
It's turning out to be quite a spectacle too. His combined 107 points in just two days has become all the rage for basketball fans. The videos of his 66-point performance at Rucker Park went viral and captivated fans who are starving for some basketball to watch.
Deron Williams and other stars can go overseas during the lockout, but the street ball approach certainly has its perks. It might not generate the same payroll, but street ball is a no pressure situation where stars can really show what they've got.
Durant embodies the rare ability to be a legitimate NBA superstar and a playground legend. It's rare to double dip as he does, but after another resounding outing, it's clear that Durant has done so.

Kevin Durant Shows Why he's the Standard in Street Ball
Nothing could have prepared us for the show Kevin Durant put on at Rucker Park yesterday. Durant dropped 66 in an epic display of showmanship and world-class talent. Even in the midst of the lockout, Durant is the buzz of the sports world because of his street-ball heroics.
It begs the question: Is he the best street baller in the world?
Durant is already recognized as a top-flight NBA superstar. This is a guy who has held the scoring title in the NBA, so it shouldn't really come as a shock that he can put down 66 points in a single street-ball outing.
What sets him apart is his ability to dazzle and still put up serious numbers. He can throw it down, shoot from deep and make defenders look foolish.
LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Dwyane Wade and Dwight Howard are guys who could be thrown in the mix as well, but not embody the street-ball mold like Durant.
All of them certainly bring something unique to the table, but what sets Durant apart is his ability to stand out regardless of the venue. You could drop Durant in a one-on-one tournament, school yard, AAU tournament or NBA Finals game and he would be a threat.
Durant can score from anywhere on the floor and knows how to put on a show. He's a lethal scorer and an incredible all-around basketball player. He was able to drop 66 and not look like an NBA player who was trying too hard to be impressive.
Being impressive comes naturally to him. He looks like the best kid on the playground, which is essentially what street ball is all about.
Obviously the level of competition is stepped up from what it is at the local rec center, but the logic remains the same. Durant is able to appeal to the crowd and put on a show like nobody else in the NBA could.

Goodman League vs Drew League Competitive Balance May be Unfair
The NBA lockout has made NBA summer leagues nonexistent, which has caused NBA talent to be pumped into the Drew and Goodman streetball leagues.
The two are squaring off in what will undoubtedly be the basketball matchup of the summer. The clash will feature NBA talent on both teams, which will make for an exciting game between some of the best players in the world.
The game is being built up as an East vs West battle, but one look at the rosters and it is easy to see that this game is more of a Davis vs Goliath matchup.
Listed below is the Goodman League roster for the game, which can be found on probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com
Kevin Durant
John Wall
Ty Lawson
Gary Neal
Tyreke Evans
Michael Beasley
DeMarcus Cousins
Josh Selby
Sam Young
Donte Green
Hugh 'Baby Shaw" Jones (AND1)
Emanuel 'Duce' Jones
Warren "D-Nice" Jefferson
Clearly the biggest name on this roster is Kevin Durant, who is one of the best basketball players in the world. With John Wall Holding down the point, the team has a lethal combination of scorers and role playing difference makers.
DeMarcus Cousins has a commanding presence in the middle, but a player who could have an unprecedented impact in this game is Josh Selby, who is is currently picking apart his opponents in Goodman league play.
He recently dropped 48 and made Brandon Jennings look foolish, when 6'2" Selby soared over him in a posterizing facial of a dunk.
The NBA talent combined with the streetball mainstays is sure to make for an exciting game from the Goodman side.
Now let's take a look at the Drew League side.
James Harden
DeMar DeRozan
Nick Young
Dorrell Wright
Brandon Jennings
JaVale McGee
Craig Smith
Pooh Jeter
Bobby Brown (Aris BC)
Marcus Williams
As you can see, there isn't a shortage of talent on the Drew League roster. Even so, Brandon Jennings, DeMar DeRozan and James Harden aren't exactly Kevin Durant, John Wall and Tyreke Evans.
This game could get out of hand quickly. It would be nice to see a legitimate Kevin Durant caliber superstar on the drew League squad. Maybe if Kobe Bryant elected to bypass the Euro temptations and joined forces with the Drew league, it would make for a more even matchup.
Regardless of the outcome of the game, it's bound to be exciting.

Josh Selby Embarrasses Brandon Jennings on his way to a 48 Point Show
Josh Selby was one of the most polarizing players to enter the draft. He was a high school phenom and routinely impresses in tournaments and competitions, but his struggles in his freshman year at Kansas were cause for concern for NBA GMs.
Now headed for the Grizzlies, Selby is creating quite a stir in the Goodman League Street basketball league. He dropped 48 earlier in the week, but his point total plays second fiddle to his posterizing of Brandon Jennings.
The superstar power and streetball mentality make for an electrifying atmosphere at these games. Selby brought the house down when he took all 6'2" of himself charging into down the lane and over the top of Jennings.
Jennings demonstrated an impressive off the backboard dunk during league play, but Selby's jam could very well be the most memorable dunk in the summer leagues thus far.
Selby is incredibly talented and it's good to see him putting up numbers like he is, even if it's not on an NBA court. Some speculated that his problem at Kansas was a rise in the level of competition. Given the caliber of players on the court with him in the summer league, it's hard to imagine Selby's lack of production had anything to do with the talent on the other end of the court.
Selby is making a name for himself with the summer leagues. While it's streetball, his shot is spot on and he's absolutely torching his opponents.
The teams that decided Selby had too much baggage to take a flyer on could very well be kicking themselves. He has the potential to be a lethal scorer. If he can manage to tap into that potential, as he has in this competition, we could see him develop into quite the pro.
The insane point total puts his ability to score in a number of ways on display. By embarrassing Jennings in the manner he did, he shows his ability to be an entertainer.
The Grizzlies may not be able to speak with Selby at the moment, but rest assured, they are liking what they see out of their rookie.
