Thursday Notes

Only eight games today, but let's hit them...

CC Sabathia has worked into the seventh inning in each of his last ten starts. In his last five, he has allowed just two earned runs in 39.2 innings of work. The Rays have seen plenty of Sabathia and none have struggled too drastically. While you should avoid the 3-for-15 of Casey Kotchman, B.J. Upton has gone 11-for-33 against him with two home runs. The rest of your regular Rays are all in the .270-range and should be played as you normally would.

James Shields have given up just three earned runs in 15 innings this season against the Yankees. Jeter, Cano, and Posada are all hitting better than .300 against Shields, but Curtis Granderson is only 3-for-37. Mark Teixeira is hitting below .200 against the Tampa starter as well. Nick Swisher and Brett Gardner do not crack .235 either.

Ricky Romero has lost his last two starts and given up 11 runs in his last 14.2 innings pitched in his last three starts. Romero though has been solid at home, posting a 2.98 ERA and a .213 BAA. Only Ichiro has faced Romero more than 10 times and has a .385 average in 13 at-bats against him. Franklin Gutierrez and Miguel Olivo are both 3-for-9.

Jered Weaver has won his last six decisions and now has a 1.90 ERA this season overall. The Rangers have had mixed luck against him. Only Elvis Andrus has hit better than .300 against him, posting a .314 mark, but Josh Hamilton is at .296 in 27 at-bats. Adrian Beltre, Julio Borbon, and David Murphy are all below .200 and Nelson Cruz checks in at just .205.

Bobby Abreu has had his problems with C.J. Wilson, going just 2-for-16. Maicer Izturis, Howie Kendrick, and Vernon Wells are all hitting better than .300 against him. Aybar, Callaspo, and Hunter are all good to go in this one against the Texas starter.

Michael Cuddyer has seen Justin Verlander 47 times and is hitting just .191 against him. Alexi Casilla has struggled to a mark below .200 as well. Delmon Young and his .222 mark need to be on the bench as well. Otherwise, the Twins have markedly good numbers against the Detroit ace. Kubel, Mauer, and Span are all hitting better than .340.

Austin Jackson and Magglio Ordonez both have marks better than .360 against Carl Pavano with Ordonez hitting better than .400. Keep far away from Carlos Guillen as he is hitless in 17 at-bats against him. Brandon Inge should be on your bench and Miguel Cabrera hits only .259 against Pavano.

Jason Bartlett and Orlando Hudson have seen plenty of Javier Vazquez. Hudson is at .300 in 20 at-bats while Bartlett is at .257 in 35 at-bats while adding 10 strikeouts. Vazquez has been...better. He has given up three earned runs or less in each of his last five starts. Not saying you want to throw him out there, but the run he is on could help you out today against the Padres.

Rough start last time out for Tommy Hanson, but he has been incredibly solid on the road this season. Hanson has a 1.07 WHIP and 2.62 ERA to go with 61 strikeouts in 55 innings of work. He has already held down the Rockies once this season.

Spot Starts: Niese, Pavano, Vazquez
