Featuring the best swimmers, divers and water polo players from around the world, the 2011 FINA World Championships kicked off on July 16th and runs through July 31st.

The headliner this year is Michael Phelps who is looking to compete in seven events at this year's world championships.

Phelps is looking to break a world record at this year's event, something that has not happened in 18 months.  FINA put a ban on rubberized suits at the beginning of 2010 and nobody has come close to breaking a world record since then.

The change was put in place following the 2009 World Championships in Rome when 43 world records were broken.

Diving, synchronized swimming, water polo and open water swimming will also be on the docket for this year's world championships.

Michael Phelps won a gold medal on Saturday, but Missy 'Missile' Franklin stole the show.

Franklin won two more golds on Saturday to leave the worlds with five medals overall. In all, she claimed three gold, a silver and a bronze. As he watched her, Phelps recalled his first world meet in 2001 as a 15-year-old who set a world record.

For Phelps, watching Franklin succeed at a young age brought back memories. Phelps:

"I kind of remember myself being like that, full of energy all the time. She's just happy, just enjoying everything, she's never tired, she's always swimming fast. She's really been able to come on the scene strong. I've said this all along, she's a stud."

Reading that quote you'd think Phelps was Mark Spitz. Or another former champion well past his prime. He proved Saturday that that is far from the case. Michael Phelps dominated the 100-meter butterfly.

As for Franklin, she went wire to wire to win the 200 backstroke, then anchored the U.S. women to victory in the 400 medley relay.
