Tiger Woods has just announced a split with Steve Williams, his caddie since 1999.

Williams, 47, has been an ardent supporter of Woods during his recent personal and professional struggles.

The announcement was made on Woods' official website.

''I want to express my deepest gratitude to Stevie for all his help, but I think it's time for a change. Woods said via his website. "Stevie is an outstanding caddie and a friend and has been instrumental in many of my accomplishments. I wish him great success in the future."

The breakup has been widely speculated since the recent US Open when Williams caddied for Adam Scott, while Tiger nursed a left leg injury.

Woods has yet to name a replacement.
