According to Ben Nicholson-Smith of, the San Francisco Giants have acquired infielder Jeff Keppinger from the Houston Astros for right-handed minor league pitchers Henry Sosa and Jason Stoffel.

Keppinger has spent his 2011 season at second base, yet he has experience at all four infield positions that will be beneficial for the Giants who need help at second base and shortstop. Keppinger has been hitting well lately, posting a .307 batting average since returning from surgery on his left foot.

Sosa has a 5.51 ERA so far this year in the Giants' farm system, and Stoffel has posted a respectable 3.78 ERA in relief.

Also according to Giants beat writer Andrew Baggarly, Brandon Belt has been recalled from Triple-A, and catcher Hector Sanchez has been sent back down after his short stint with the major league club.
