It would not be football season if there were no quarterback battles to watch unfold during the summer, and that is just what football fans will have when training camps open in a few weeks.
So long as they get that whole lockout thing settled this week, here are a few battles worth watching:
San Francisco: Alex Smith vs. Colin Kaepernick
Smith has yet to take the job by the horns but may get another chance. He does have a solid rapport with Vernon Davis, so this is a battle to keep a close eye on this summer.
Donovan McNabb has taken his last snap behind center in Washington according to most sources, so that leaves the door open for Sexy Rexy again. But there has been a lot of buzz for Beck this offseason, mostly coming from the Redskins’ front office.
No real fantasy value to watch for here, just pure entertainment. Statistically, Clausen had one of the worst seasons an NFL quarterback could have last year. It will not take much for Newton to overtake him as the starter.
Here are today’s great reads:
- First set of running back rankings I have seen in a while that have Adrian Peterson No. 1 over Arian Foster. And I think I agree (still working on mine). [Fantasy Knuckleheads]
- Here is a fun list: The best star NFL players to play on terrible teams. Kind of irked that there are no Saints players. Ricky Jackson? Willie Roaf? Morten Anderson??? [The Big Lead]
- Wide receiver has to be one of the toughest — if not the toughest — positions to rank in the fantasy football game. So unpredictable from year-to-year, so many variables. So if you can get a hand up on predicting which WRs may bust, you could be ahead of the game in 2011. [Fantasy Douche]
