In the corporate world there is a term used for the man that terminates peoples careers. That man is called, "Hatchet Man!"
I summit to you that college football has its own version of the "Hatchet Man," and his name is Nick Saban.
Consider the following evidence.
Clemson started the 2008 football season ranked 9th in the country. Some experts went as far as forecasting Clemson in the BCS Championship Game January 8 in Miami, Florida.
On August 30th, 2008 Nick Saban, and The Crimson Tide embarrassed Tommy Bowden and Clemson with sound beat down in Atlanta, Georgia thus ending any hopes of that championship season. The final score, a humiliating 34-10.
One month later Tommy Bowden resigned under pressure from the Clemson faithful.
Tennessee, and Coach Phil Fulmer started the season highly ranked. Straight out of the gate they lost a close game to UCLA.
Coach Fulmer spent the next weeks trying to pull his program back together. Then came Alabama.
On October 25th, the annual rivalry game with Alabama was surrounded with rumors that it was a must win for Coach Fulmer, and Tennessee.
Those rumors got legs when Alabama soundly whipped Tennessee in front of a packed home crowd with the final score being 29-9. The second straight lopsided loss to Saban for besieged Phillip Fulmer.
One week later comes the resignation of Tennessee icon Phillip Fulmer.
Today I turn on my radio to hear the voices of disgruntled Auburn fans calling for the head of one of the saviors of the Auburn football program, Tommy Tuberville.
The Auburn program also was highly regarded this year. Alabama and Auburn have not even met this year yet. Still the success Alabama is enjoying weighs heavy on Tuberville's shoulders.
Tuberville has been under constant heat ever since Coach Saban arrived at the University of Alabama in 2007.
The sudden success at Alabama has made things very stressful down on the Plains of Auburn for Mr. Tuberville.
