British Open 2011 Tee Times: Breaking Down Pairings for Final Day
The winner of the Claret Jug and the Open championships will be determined by the end of the day. This fourth and final day of play at Royal St. George's will be exciting as well as unpredictable.
The conditions will possibly be even more severe today, which will not favor any golfer's game.
Here are the tee times and listings of the most anticipated pairings of the final day (all times are local England times, which are five hours ahead of the U.S. Eastern time zone).
11:40 Rory McIlroy and Sergio Garcia
1 of 5This incredibly talented duo unfortunately had a poor first few rounds.
They find themselves multiple strokes above par with a very small chance of winning the Open.
Still, it will be fun to watch the two superstars go at it and look to improve their overall results.
Perhaps it isn't too late for them to still win the tournament; we'll just have to wait and see.
13:40 Phil Mickelson and Anthony Kim
2 of 5The talk of Americans will continue as the tournament proceeds since five of the current top eight players of the leaderboard are Americans.
Anthony Kim's 2011 season has been very poor, but he is finding his range again (golf jokes are great). Kim has only had one top-ten finish this year, but maybe he can add a number to that category by the end of the day.
So many people's doubts about Phil Mickelson have been disproved and shut down by the man himself.
Lefty has adopted a new game plan and tolerance for links golf and is beginning to appreciate the proper way to win at the British Open (it has only taken him 18 years to adjust, though).
Look for Mickelson to maybe capture the one title that nobody ever saw coming.
13:50 Lucas Glover and Miguel Angel Jimenez
3 of 5Lucas Glover is tied for fifth place at one under (par). The 2009 U.S. Open champion is looking to add another Major to his name to prove that he can win multiple titles.
He is a wonderful player and is adding steam to the argument that Americans are still packing a punch in golf.
Meanwhile, Miguel Angel Jimenez has been heating up this tournament, and I don't mean because of his smoking habits.
The Spaniard has had a Top-10 finish in every Grand Slam of golf, but he won first place for the most entertaining performance of the tournament by far. For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, watch this.
14:00 Thomas Bjorn and Rickie Fowler
4 of 5Thomas Bjorn finished as the runner-up of the 2000 and 2003 British Open. Eight years down the road, he is enduring a very impressive resurgence to the game and is approaching golf with a new desire to win at the age of 40.
Bjorn has been the runner-up of a total of three Grand Slams; perhaps fourth time's the charm for him at this major.
Rickie Fowler has been highly impressive, showcasing his talents and out-playing his friend, Rory McIlroy. He is currently two under (par), only three shots shy of Darren Clarke, the leader.
The 22-year-old American rising talent has dealt with the pressure of the first three days brilliantly, especially when he was just one of three players to go under par for the day yesterday in very tough weather conditions.
But, the final day is the decisive one, and high expectations have been created for Fowler. Hopefully, he can keep up his level of play and have a great finish to the Open.
14:10 Dustin Johnson and Darren Clarke
5 of 5One of the longest drivers on the PGA tour, Dustin Johnson has proven to be a very consistent golfer in his career so far.
The 27-year-old American has a real opportunity here; he is the American in the draw with the best score going into the last day. He is only one stroke behind Darren Clarke and one win away from stealing American fans' hearts.
It's an entirely different story for the Northern Irishman, Darren Clarke, though.
The 42-year-old had his best showing in a major when he finished in second place in the 1997 British Open. Nearly a decade and a half later, he is back to earn a Grand Slam and the title that he could never grasp.
It would be quite an interesting story to see Clarke come through with the victory, but since he is part of the final pairing of the day, he may feel the pressure more so than others, being perhaps the last one to take a swing on the day.
Regardless of who wins, the storyline will be spectacular, so anticipate a sweet end to the Open championships.
