WBO, WBA and Ring Lightweight Champion Juan Manuel Marquez (53-5-1, 39 KO) knocked out Likar Ramos (24-4, 18 KO) in the first round of their bout, setting up a fight with Manny Pacquiao in the process.
Since being defeated by Mayweather in 2009, Marquez has had three consecutive victories over Ramos, Michael Katsidis and Juan Diaz. He has looked impressive in all of them and put on very entertaining fights and knockouts in the process.
He will be taking on Pacquiao on November 12th for the third time. Their first fight resulted in a draw after Marquez was dropped three times in the first round. The second fight was a split-decision win for Pacquiao in a fight many ringside observers thought Marquez had won.
"Sometimes, that's the way fights go. They are short," said Marquez through his translator in the post-fight interview. "I got a good punch on him. He couldn't take it. That's the way fights go sometimes."
"He(Pacquiao) needs to prepare well because I'm going to prepare well."
"Mayweather is a good defensive fighter. With Pacquiao and me, it's going to be a war."
