College Football Recruiting 2012: Dream Scenario for Every Top-25 Team
Dreams are great to have and even greater when they come true. So of course, every college football team has its fair share of recruiting dreams they aspire for.
For this read, I'm going to take the top 25 teams and give you one quick dream scenario they have that they would love to happen come next February. Ah, yes, college football recruiting. It's what dreams are made of.
Dream, er, read on.
25. Tulsa
1 of 25Tulsa is not a sexy team in recruiting, and they rearely get any elite talent. But who are we to tell them they can't dream? Albeit, I would caution them to dream realistically, as far recruiting goes.
Dream recruiting scenario: Sign four 4-star recruits in 2012.
24. Texas
2 of 25Texas may be ranked 24th on this list, but what else can you say about the recruiting class they are putting together for 2012? Wowsers.
Around 90 percent of their class of players are rated 4-stars or higher, and they are in the thick for a couple more 5-star recruits.
Dream recruiting scenario: They're living their dream scenario.
23. Arizona State
3 of 25ASU has big time dreams for on the field in 2011, as they have one of the best overall players in college football in LB Vontaze Burfict.
However, they do fall a bit behind USC and Oregon in the recruiting side of things. They are also an in-state school for OT Andrus Peat, a 5-star LT prospect.
Dream recruiting scenario: Signing Andrus Peat.
22. Florida
4 of 25Florida has a borderline top-five recruiting class right now, and they have a chance to finish in the top three if things shake out right.
They have two 5-star prospects in the fold, but I think they are on the verge of getting one more in D.J. Humphries.
Dream recruiting scenario: Take Dante Fowler from FSU and sign D.J. Humphries.
21. Missouri
5 of 25Missouri just got a commitment from QB Maty Mauk, who plays in a spread offense now and has put up some sick stats over the past couple seasons.
Now with a great QB like Mauk in the fold, you need a stud receiver for him to throw to, right?
Dream recruiting scenario: Sign WR Dorial Green-Beckham.
20. Notre Dame
6 of 25Notre Dame seems to be mentioned by many prospects this year, and the Irish are off to a great start in 2012 recruiting. They have a chance to haul in a memorable recruiting class and are dreaming big for 2012. Real big.
Dream recruiting scenario: Sign Keith Marshall, Zach Banner and Josh Garnett.
19. Ohio State
7 of 25The Buckeye class is in some trouble.
OT Kyle Kalis, 5-star, is now a Michigan pledge, and the Wolverines are also hot after RB Brionte Dunn too. Luke Fickell is going to have to work on selling himself and OSU in order to keep Dunn committed.
Dream recruiting scenario: Keeping Brionte Dunn.
18. Virginia Tech
8 of 25Frank Beamer seems to always find an offensive playmaker or two to lure to Blacksburg. VaTech isn't known as a recruiting juggernaut, but they do a solid job of hauling in good talent overall.
Dream recruiting scenario: Signing Stefon Diggs over basically the rest of the country.
17. South Carolina
9 of 25Pretty much this likely is the last year for Alshon Jeffrey in Columbia. He's probably going to be going to the NFL and a new star WR will be needed.
Although it is rare for a freshman WR to impact early, the Gamecocks currently have a WR commit capable of perhaps bucking the trend.
Dream recruiting scenario: Holding on to Shaq Roland.
16. Missippi State
10 of 25The Bulldogs are on the verge of a breakthrough season in 2011. But they still need to win a breakthrough recruiting battle to put their stamp on the trail. This year could be the year they do so.
Dream recruiting scenario: Beating out Alabama and others for Quay Evans.
15. Arkansas
11 of 25The Razorbacks usually bring in a good amount of 4-star prospects each year but never really gobble up many 5-star prospects on a consistent basis. This year, they are in contention for the No. 1 overall recruit.
Dream recruiting scenario: Signing Dorial Green-Beckham.
14. Wisconsin
12 of 25Wisconsin puts a lot of stock and effort in evaluating, recruiting and developing good OL prospects. It's the key to their great rushing attack.
They already have a commitment from 4-star OG Dan Voltz and are in for more.
Dream recruiting scenario: Signing four 4-star or higher OLs.
13. TCU
13 of 25TCU is recruiting safety LaDarrell McNeil, as McNeil is a fantastic prospect. The Horned Frogs don't usually too many of the big names, but beating out Oklahoma State for him would be a huge coup.
Dream recruiting scenario: Signing LaDarrell McNeil.
12. Nebraska
14 of 25Last year, Nebraska signed elite OL prospect Tyler Moore, who I think can be a great RT for Big Red. So they're going to need another bookend LT, right?
An LT that has a brother on the team? A 6'7", 300-pound 5-star LT?
Dream recruiting scenario: Signing Andrus Peat.
11. Michigan State
15 of 25Michigan State snatched up DE Se'Von Pittman from Ohio State and Michigan last month and are battling for prospects on the trail. I think WR Aaron Burbridge is their top target on the board.
Dream recruiting scenario: Signing Aaron Burbridge.
10. Auburn
16 of 25Auburn will be young this year but no one cares on the recruiting front because the champs are doing very, very well.
They have a slew of talented commitments and figure to score on a few more before the cycle is complete.
Dream recruiting scenario: Beat out Alabama for Kwon Alexander.
9. Florida State
17 of 25Jimbo Fisher is recruiting for Florida State like they were in the '90s. The 'Noles are in line to sign a top-five recruiting class, and at the pace they're on, they're en route to another dominant talent coup to lure to Tallahassee.
Dream recruiting scenario: Sign Jameis Winston.
8. Texas A&M
18 of 25Mike Sherman is snatching up commitments left and right for the Aggies. They have a top-10 class right now, and it could get into the top five when rankings really matter.
Five-star QB Matt Davis and elite RB Trey Williams are prime time players.
Dream recruiting scenario: Finish with a consensus top-five recruiting class.
7. Oklahoma State
19 of 25The Pokes have victims of some unfortunate decommitments this year so far, but I think they are bound to score some pledges during the season when they win some games.
They're leading for LaDarrell McNeil, as of last week, and there's also a RB by the name of Barry Sanders out there.
Dream recruiting scenario: Signing LaDarrell McNeil and Barry Sanders Jr.
6. Boise State
20 of 25Boise State isn't a prime time get player on the recruiting side of things, as Boise, Idaho is not the most desired destinations for an 18-year-old high school football star.
But Chris Peterson gets players that want to be there and develops them right.
Dream recruiting scenario: Finish with a top-25 recruiting class.
5. Stanford
21 of 25Stanford has completely reinvented themselves on the recruiting trail. Former head coach Jim Harbaugh did a great job of bringing in physical and tough players to play smash mouth football.
The Cardinal are off to a good start this year under David Shaw.
Dream recruiting scenario: Sign Kyle Murphy and Aziz Shittu.
4. Oregon
22 of 25Oregon enjoyed a top-15 type of recruiting class last year, but things have hit a snag in 2012 recruiting. The Willie Lyles situation has cast some doubt on the program's future and maybe even Chip Kelly's job.
Dream recruiting scenario: Survive the current investigation and still sign a top-25 class.
3. LSU
23 of 25LSU has a solid class at the moment, as I have them inside my top 10 rankings at the moment. The Tigers easily sit back and pluck their in-state talent while venturing out to the other southern states for more prospects.
They're big game hunting this year.
Dream recruiting scenario: Sign Jameis Winston and Channing Ward.
2. Alabama
24 of 25Alabama is basically doing what Alabama does. Recruiting extremely well while also preparing for a BCS title run.
This year, the Tide are off to a great start and are in line to sign a top-five class at the worst. They already have Reggie Ragland and Eddie Williams in the fold.
Dream recruiting scenario: Also sign Kwon Alexander and Jameis Winston.
1. Oklahoma
25 of 25The Sooners will open the season more than likely as the the No. 1 ranked team in the country. They have a top-10 recruiting class and are recruiting Gunner Kiel and Dorial Green-Beckham very hard.
They also have commitments from several elite OLs and could be the favorite for Avery Young.
Dream recruiting scenario: Sign Gunner Kiel, Dorial Green-Beckham and Avery Young.
