Going into the All-Star Game, there was a lot of speculation on who the New York Mets would trade away, or if they would trade at all. After the All-Star Game, it may just be everyone.

Just moments after the MLB All-Star Game, the New York Mets traded pitcher Francisco Rodriguez to the Milwaukee Brewers for two minor league players to be named later. Mets general manager Sandy Alderson will choose out of a list of five minor leaguers by September. Those two will likely be called up to play in September, when active rosters expand from 25 to 40 players.

By merely trading their star closer—who is having an All-Star season with a 3.16 ERA, 46 strikeouts in 42.67 innings and is 23-for-26 in save opportunities—for just two minor leaguers shows that the New York Mets will trade every big contract and every expiring contract in order to attempt to build a strong, young base while looking to reload in free agency when the financial crisis is over with.

Right fielder Carlos Beltran is most likely the next to be traded.

Jose Reyes is currently on the disabled list until around the 22nd of July and could then be traded, too.

Same goes for third baseman David Wright.

Johan Santana could be back around August and, if anything, would likely be a major trade chip in the offseason.

Trading David Wright would be iffy for the Mets because he is their young star. But, if they were to dump his salary, they could make the marketing move for first baseman Ike Davis, who could then become the main guy.

Despite being over .500 with a 46-45 record, it is inevitable that the New York Mets will initiate a fire sale during the trade deadline.
