World Football: 10 Players with a Hidden Talent You Don't Know About
Quite often in quirky interviews with footballers, a certain question will come up: "What would you be if you weren't a footballer?" It's a question that is all too often answered with something annoyingly average.
However, there are some footballers who do have other talents that may be able to answer the question with slightly more exciting answers.
Whether or not they're all actually "talents" is up to you to decide for yourself, but these footballers do have some sort of hidden ability that isn't too well known by the public.
So, without further ado, here are 10 players with a hidden "talent" you may not have known about before.
Clint Dempsey (AKA Deuce): Rapping
I really want to judge him for this, I really, really do. But I can't. He seems to fit the role perfectly.
If people didn't know him as a footballer he really wouldn't look out of place in this video either. Whether it's enough talent to make a career out of it without his fame as a footballer is uncertain, but he's definitely not as bad as many people—including me—were probably hoping.
He even has the name and everything...
Kevin-Prince Boateng: Dancing
I doubt he could turn this into a career if he wasn't a footballer, but it's safe to say he's still quite a talented dancer.
Although he didn't quite cut it at Tottenham (and still somehow made it straight into the AC Milan line up), Kevin-Prince Boateng at least has something here that he could do better than most of the other players at White Hart Lane.
Even if it does just end up as a party trick for celebrations...
Asamoah Gyan (AKA Baby Jet): Musician
This song isn't actually by Asamoah Gyan (or "Baby Jet"), but he does feature in it and he occasionally appears in the background of scenes.
He's well known for having a passion for music so here he is trying his best to make the most of that when he's not scoring goals.
It's just a shame he's not in the video more since it's gotten to the stage where you excitedly shout "There!" every time he's seen.
David Villa: Singing
David Villa just seems like one of those people who can do everything he tries perfectly. On this evidence that could well be true.
He's singing in a charity single here, which makes him appear as an even nicer person and an even better singer, which is surely just too much talent for one man to have on top of his football abilities, right?
Still, as long as he's inspirational in the right way to younger kids (yes, I'm looking at you, John Terry and Ashley Cole)...
Ryan Babel: Rapping
Another rapper here, and this time it's Ryan Babel. It was a tricky one for Babel because his hidden talent could equally have been "Twitter Superstar," but I couldn't find a video of that.
The Dutchman is already known as an outspoken player, which surely just helps his whole persona as a rapper as well.
Still, I think it's for the best that he raps in Dutch so we can at least use the excuse of not understanding what he's saying...
Jody Craddock: Artist
Believe it or not I did manage to find a video of this—well, not really of him painting, but he does talk about his hidden talent in the interview.
Jody Craddock may not have been the best known footballer, except to long-time Premier League fans, but that just means he has a better chance of making it just as big in the art world.
He's even got a site for his far more respectable, hidden talent, which can be seen here...
Zlatan Ibrahimovic: Taekwondo Black Belt
The famous Zlatan Ibrahimovic. After being in the news a lot in the past for kicking teammates, this explains those stories a bit more, although it doesn't really paint him in a better light.
Regardless of his sometimes immature behaviour, it's hard not to like Ibrahimovic for his bizarre sense of humour and his all-round craziness.
His quote of "what John Carew can do with a football, I can do with an orange," will always stick with me...
Jimmy Bullard: Fishing
A little bit of me wanted to put "stand up" after watching this video but I decided against it in the end. In fact, Bullard is not only talented at fishing and making people laugh (and of course football) as we'll see later in this slideshow.
The English midfielder has always been a fan favourite for many reasons and it's nice to know he's also got a nice ordinary talent and hobby in fishing.
Oh, and did I mention he's a very, very funny man?
Eric Cantona: Photographer
Eric Cantona is a very talented photographer, as well as being a very talented French maverick striker. In fact, now sitting as director of soccer for New York Cosmos, he seems to have it all.
His legacy is already secured as can be seen by asking any Manchester United fans, but now he's able to settle down and take more time out to enjoy some of his other talents.
One of those talents is photography, as mentioned, and although I couldn't find a video of it, he talks about his favourite past time here...
Gary Lineker: Golf
I had to put Gary Lineker here for golf as my only other option was Jimmy Bullard again, who is rumoured to play off a handicap of +1!
Lineker isn't too far behind, though, and has a reputation as a very able golfer; in fact, his passion for the game is strong enough that the BBC made him one of their golf presenters as well.
Most recently seen hosting the Seve Ballesteros tribute documentary, Lineker's passion for golf is clearly evident in his life.
