South Carolina lands its biggest target of the 2012 recruiting class on Saturday with the verbal commitment of Lexington wide receiver Shaq Roland.
Shaq is the state of South Carolina's No. 1 prospect and the No. 63 overall recruit according to Rivals.com. The star announced his commitment via Facebook.
The 6'2", 190-pound rising junior was a do-it-all player for the Lexington Wildcats, rushing, receiving, taking back kicks and even passing some.
An impressive specimen, Shaq picked South Carolina over Alabama and Georgia.
This is the third consecutive year that the Gamecocks have landed the state's top player, following Marcus Lattimore and Jadeveon Clowney.
This is a very impressive feat for a school that has been predominantly overshadowed by in-state rival Clemson.
That has appeared to shift, as the Tigers once again miss out on the jewel of the Palmetto State.
This has got to be considered another victory for the South Carolina football coaches, as maintaining a level of instate success is critical to building a powerhouse program, which, by all accounts, South Carolina could be on the way to becoming.
Once again, it is a great time to be a Gamecock.
Welcome aboard, Mr. Roland.
