Red Sox Catcher? Going Once...Going Twice...

In 1997, the Mariners traded Jason Varitek and Derek Lowe to the Red Sox for a reliever named Heathcliff Slocumb. Now the Red Sox have juiced Varitek until there is no juice left.

The Red Sox have two catchers filing for free agency, both veterans, David Ross and Jason Varitek. Who will the Red Sox go for? Max Ramirez? Ivan Rodriguez? Kenji Johjima? Henry Blanco? Chris Ianetta? Russel Martin? Who?

I say they will try for Max Ramirez because he has youth and they can have another catcher for ten years like they did with Varitek. The only problem is the Rangers are going to want pitching.

A possible three way trade could come in to effect.

The trade to end all trades. Red Sox-Rangers-Yankees. The Rangers give the Red Sox Max Ramirez. The Yankees give the Rangers Phil Hughes and the Red Sox give the Yankees Jacoby Ellsbury. That is one very possible trade that may occur.

I predict the entire AL East will have all winning seasons. I bet Girardi, Maddon, Francona, Gaston and Trembly are all terrified and excited at the same time. Expect a huge trade being done to get Boston a catcher.
