Dirk Nowitzki Girlfriend: Is Jessica Olsson Key to Success for Dirk Nowitzki?

One minute you've played 12 NBA seasons, have no rings and have a girlfriend who fakes being pregnant.

The next, you've played 13 NBA seasons, have a ring and have a girlfriend who not only is attractive, but doesn't seem crazy, either.

Such has been the turnaround for Dallas Mavericks superstar Dirk Nowitzki, who captured his first NBA championship last season against the Miami Heat.

Was it a coincidence Nowitzki won his first NBA championship in his first year with girlfriend Jessica Olsson?

I think not (this is known as a tongue-in-cheek statement, so no need to be outraged NBA purists).

Before the 2010-2011 campaign, Nowitzki and the Mavericks had been to the playoffs 10 straight times, and all 10 times they hadn't won a championship.

A lot of that blame was placed on the theory that Nowitzki and the Mavericks were too soft, and got pushed around too much when it came down to the wire.

Given Nowitzki drew comparisons of legend Larry Bird on his way to the championship last season, I think that issue has been settled.

But Nowitzki's resurgence points out something fans oftentimes forget: that athletes are, indeed, humans, and personal issues affect them much in the same way they do us.

Sure, athletes have a way of drowning out off-the-field issues, and most of the time they are able to leave the personal life behind when it comes time to play their respective sport.

But they also aren't immune to stimuli affecting them; they aren't robots, as much as they seem like it sometimes.

After all, it's no wonder Tiger Woods fell apart on the golf course after the news broke that he had been unfaithful to then-wife Elin Nordegren.

Athletes carry enough expectations from the world; when their personal life isn't great that certainly doesn't help.

Right now, as Nowitzki sits upon the throne as the leader of an NBA champion, things are going wonderfully for him, on the court and off it.
