Minka Kelly, the girlfriend of New York Yankees star Derek Jeter, will be interviewed in an upcoming HBO documentary centered around Jeter's quest to 3,000 career hits titled Derek Jeter 3K.
Jeter, who had career hit No. 3,000 on Saturday in Yankees Stadium against the Tampa Bay Rays, became only the 28th player in MLB history to achieve the feat, and the first Yankees hitter to do so.
Kelly will join a long line of prominent baseball figures in the documentary, including Hal Steinbrenner, Brian Cashman, Joe Girardi, Joe Torre and Mariano Rivera.
Kelly, 31, who is preparing for her role in ABC's Charlie's Angels, has been the longtime girlfriend of the Yankees captain and was seen cheering him from a luxury box at Yankees Stadium on Saturday.
It's going to be interesting what she has to say.
Most hitters will probably be tuning in to see if she divulges what Jeter does on a daily basis. You know, what he eats and drinks, what his superstitions are, when he blinks, stuff like that.
Jeter has become an iconic figure for baseball, a player respected throughout the country, even by Boston Red Sox fans.
He's been a model of resolve, on the field and through contract negotiations (i.e. this last offseason), and has not only been a stellar player, but a stellar player when it matters most.
On his big day on Saturday, Jeter not only collected his 3,000th career hit, he did so while hitting a home run and going 5-for-5 in the game.
Kelly probably knows stuff about Jeter we can't get close enough to find out.
Here's to hoping she uncovers some of the secrets that make Jeter one of the greats the game of baseball has ever known.
