Eagles-Seahawks: Week 9 Preview

Merrick SteinOct 31, 2008

When the Eagles enter Qwest Field on Sunday, Philadelphia will be thinking of other things.  They will be thinking of the Phillies world championship, and how the 25 year curse of Billy Penn has been broken.  They will also be thinking of the Eagles upcoming game against the Giants on Sunday night.  What about the game this week against Seattle.  When asked if he was looking ahead to the contest with New York, Brian Dawkins made it clear that when you have 3 losses, you must take it one game at a time.  The Eagles are focused on the Seahawks; a team who embarrassed them 42-0 on Monday Night Football, and a team who beat them last year with 4 interceptions off of A.J. Feeley.  They are determined to make a loss to Seattle a thing of the past.

The Seahawks destroyed the 49ers 34-13 last week.  So they can’t be that bad, can they?  Well, think about this.  The Seahawks are 2-5.  Their wins have come against St. Louis and San Francisco.  Their losses have come to Buffalo, Green Bay, Tampa Bay, and a 44-6 blowout courtesy of the New York Giants.  The Seahawks are also a very badly injured team.  One of their top defensive players, Patrick Kerney, will not play.  Matt Hasselbeck and Deion Branch, two major components of the offense, will also be out.  Top linebacker Lofa Tatupu and halfback Leonard Weaver are questionable.

As for the Eagles, this is a must win.  The division is too competitive for the Eagles to blow these types of games.  If Donovan McNabb, Brian Westbrook, and the rest of the offense can put it together, the Eagles should have no trouble with this team.  The biggest key to this game is for the Eagles to come out ready.  Picture the 5-3 Eagles at the Linc, looking for their first divisional victory against their most hated rivals.
