ESPN ESPY Awards 2011 Big Winners Were Dallas Mavericks, Dirk Nowitzki
The Dallas Mavericks and Dirk Nowitzki were two of the biggest winners from the ESPN ESPY awards. The Mavericks brought home the award for Best Team, while Nowitzki won the award for Best Male Athlete and Best NBA Player.
It was a bit surprising that he won both awards as many people still consider LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, or Derrick Rose to be the Best NBA Player, but Dirk certainly earned the honor after his dominating performance in the playoffs.
It was a surprise to see Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers left out of the party considering that the NFL is generally considered more popular than the NBA, but you have to think the Mavericks got a boost for knocking off the hated Miami Heat.
Here are the other winners from the 2011 ESPY Awards:
| Award | Winner |
|---|---|
| Best Breakthrough Athlete | Blake Griffin |
| Best Championship Performance | Tim Thomas |
| Best Upset | VCU |
| Best Male College Athlete | Jimmer Fredette |
| Best Male Athlete | Dirk Nowitzki |
| Best Female Athlete | Lindsey Vonn |
| Best Game | Eagles vs. Giants |
| Best Play | Abby Wambach |
| Best NBA Player | Dirk Nowitzki |
| Best NFL Player | Aaron Rodgers |
| Best Driver | Jimmie Johnson |
| Best NHL Player | Tim Thomas |
| Best Comeback Player | Mark Herzlich |
| Best Team | Dallas Mavericks |
