The Minnesota Twins announced this afternoon that they have signed 1B Justin Morneau and OF Michael Cuddyer to long-term extentions.

Former MVP Justin Morneau's contract is a 6-year $80M contract starting this year. This nulifies the one-year contract signed last week for $7.4M.

Cuddyer's contract is a 3-year $24M contract with a team option for a fourth year at $10.5M. If they don't pick up the option, they have to buyout the contract for $1M.

  1. This is good. This will prepare Twins fans for the lose of Santana.

(By the way...Morneau's 6-year, $80 million contract is the longest in Twins history in both years and money.)

  2. Well, there is still a slight possibility of Santana re-signing. One of his biggest hangups with the Twins was that he didn't know if they were committed to winning. The re-signing of these two, along with the Garza-Young trade really helps set this team up for success in the next 3-7 years.

Hopefully Santana looks at these moves and maybe eases up on some of his salary demands.

    Probably won't though...
