WWE: CM Punk Shows His True Character by Sharing His Thoughts on Gay Rights

The Doctor Chris MuellerJun 7, 2018

After the recent events in Australia where CM Punk said a homophobic slur towards a fan were picked up, the WWE and Punk himself issued apologies. GLAAD has announced plans to work with on-air talents regarding these kinds of things as well.

Most people who follow Punk know that he is not homophobic, and supports gay rights, but was using the word "homo" more as a general insult than a gay slur. Frankly that's how most people use it, but it still gets people up in arms over nothing.

Since this happened, Punk apologized, but he also issued the following statement outlining his true feelings on the subject.

"Marriage is a totally out dated concept. Gay, straight, whatever. The fact that there’s a bunch of ***** out there that have an OPINION on somebody else's lifestyle and don’t want them to have the same basic human rights everybody else has makes me want to clobber some Republicans. **** the religious moral majority, let whoever wants to marry whoever, get the **** married. I love the moral high horse hypocrisy bull****. I know super religious pricks do tons of steroids, but a homosexual life style to them is reprehensible. **** that.” - CM Punk

I applaud Punk for this, because his view is how I think most people would like everyone's view to be, and that is to not care how other people live their lives as long as it doesn't affect anyone else.

WWE has been bashed in the past for not only being homophobic but outright anti-gay. I don't think the WWE is anti-gay in any way, but I also don't think they are out there waving a rainbow flag, either.

The Billy and Chuck storyline was controversial because some saw it as a way of WWE saying they supported Gay Marriage while other felt it was WWE just poking fun at a hot button topic. Whatever the reason was, it was an angle with it's funny moments to say the least.

Punk expressing these thoughts was the right thing to do because no one from the company he is about to leave is going to say them for him. He is the only person who can make sure that people know what he is really all about.

I hope Punk stays, but if he doesn't, then I know he will find success somewhere, even if it isn't with the biggest company in the business.
