UFC 136 Fight Card: Chael Sonnen Better Keep His Mouth Shut About Brian Stann

Dale De SouzaJul 6, 2011

Chael Sonnen just might make old Tito Ortiz look like Rich Franklin with everything he's done ever since the day he was announced as Anderson Silva's UFC 117 opponent.

He's constructed the ridiculous myth that a black belt under Rodrigo and Rogerio Nogueira is worth nothing to any serious fighter, he's come within a hair of the most shocking 50-45 Unanimous Decision win in MMA history only to tap at the near-end of the bout to arguably one the greatest Mixed Martial Artists ever in Anderson Silva.

He's also managed to test positive for elevated testosterone levels because of it; he's taken to various media outlets in order to insult Silva as well as MMA legend Wanderlei Silva, especially in light of his UFC 132 loss to Chris Leben. Above all else, he's disgracefully insulted the country of Brazil via his Twitter account.

That, plus he's knocked every major Brazilian fighter in the sport, including current Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix semifinalist Antonio Silva, and in addition to talking negatively about Jason Miller, he spoke in a derogatory manner about Michael Bisping, who was the only one that felt for Sonnen when the NSAC upheld his suspension.

Now, MMA Junkie reports that instead of Lyoto Machida in Houston, Sonnen may get Brian Stann.

Sonnen has garnered a reputation of not keeping his thoughts to himself, and he's sounded off against Wanderlei, Anderson, Mayhem, Bisping, Strikeforce fighters, Steven Seagal, Alistair Overeem, Georges St-Pierre and the country of Brazil, but here's some advice for Mr. Sonnen:

When it comes to Brian Stann, just shut your mouth and save it for Houston.

Brian Stann may be a Greg Jackson fighter, but he's a Greg Jackson fighter with some improving takedowns, some explosive stand-up, and the one thing that will shock the daylights out of MMA fans:

He actually respects his opponents, and thus is likely not going to say anything about Sonnen that doesn't translate to saying "I respect him, but I will defeat him."

Sonnen takes "not knowing when to quit" to some ridiculous levels, often going from hilarious to abominable with his words in a short matter of time, and it will be arguably more shocking than any defeat, victory or transaction in MMA history if Sonnen's only trash talk to Stann is saying "I will beat Brian Stann" and nothing more.

For his sake, he better leave it at "I'm going to beat Brian Stann."

If he goes any further than that, Stann will make him pay for it.

There are just some guys you don't talk trash to.
