Wes ODonnellJun 7, 2018

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger just lost out to Inter in the chase for Ricardo Alvarez and now he's looking regroup with a signing of Thiago Motta.

The Brazilian-born, Italian international is a 28-year-old midfielder and has made 69 appearances over the last two seasons for the Serie A club.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has turned to Inter Milan midfielder Thiago Motta after the Serie A club beat them in the race for Ricardo Alvarez.

"

Alvarez, a 23-year-old attacking midfielder, starred for Velez Sarsfield, the champions of the Primera Division in Argentina, and was highly thought of by a number of clubs.

The club at the Emirates has long been rumored as the front-runner to land the playmaker, but the Italian giants Inter Milan stepped in and a struck a deal for approximately £10.6 million.

This now puts Inter in an interesting position because they now have to sell off someone if they want to spend anymore, and that opens the doors for players like Thiago Motta and Wesley Sneijder to possibly be sold off.

Manchester United has been strongly linked to Sneijder and we should hear that possible switch come back to life.

Inter Milan manager Gian Piero Gasperini obviously wants to hold onto the Dutch superstar, and that gives Arsenal an in to go after a different player like Motta.

Things up in North London aren't going so well right now and Wenger is still fending off furious talk around his two best players, Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri.

Defender Gael Clichy already walked out, they are reportedly inching closer to a deal with Ivorian striker Gervinho, but nothing is certain at this moment other than a number of teams circling around for Arsenal's top play players.

If the Gunners can somehow find a way to keep Nasri and Fabregas, and it is possible especially considering the strong stance Wenger is taking on the Nasri move, adding another few players to the mix will help them stay in contention at the top of the Premier League table.

Wenger's decision to bid on Motta, if he does, comes at the right time, and if he can pry away the Brazilian, it will help the Gunners in more ways then one. If Motta moves than Inter is less likely to send away Sneijder and that means neither Chelsea or United will get their hands on one of the game's best playmakers.

For once this summer, Wenger is faced with a possible winning scenario if he can make it happen.
