WWE Money in the Bank: 5 Reasons Kelly Kelly Will Retain Her Divas Title

Drake OzJun 7, 2018

In less than two weeks at Money in the Bank, Divas Champion Kelly Kelly will defend her newly won title when Brie Bella uses her guaranteed rematch clause.

On paper, the bout doesn't look like anything special.

Given the way the Divas division has been booked over the last couple of years and the less than stellar ring work from Kelly Kelly and Brie, no one's going to care about this match all that much.

Except me.

Though I'm not expecting a classic encounter, this match is important for both competitors, but especially Kelly Kelly, who's in the midst of her first Divas title reign.

Or is she only at the beginning?

Here are five reasons why Kelly Kelly win retain the Divas Championship against Brie Bella at Money in the Bank.

5. Brie Bella's Divas Championship Reign Was Completely Forgettable

1 of 5

I'll be completely honest with you--I had no idea that Brie Bella won the Divas Championship on Monday Night Raw back in April, even though I haven't missed an episode of the show since 2006.

That shows how little focus was put on her title win and the WWE Divas division in general.

But, not only do I not remember Brie winning the belt, I don't really remember much of what she's done since then either.

I did like the promo that she and her twin sister Nikki cut on Kharma, but that was a rare shining moment from the Bella twins.

They've been pretty mundane overall as both entertainers and wrestlers, and it's about time we put their time at the top of the Divas division in the rear view mirror.

After all, I have the memory of an elephant, so the fact that Brie's making me forget things is pretty impressive (not in a good way, though, obviously).

4. She Just Won It and Won't Lose It on a Stacked MITB Show

2 of 5

Today is July 6, 2011. Kelly Kelly won the Divas Championship on June 20, 2011.

Call me crazy, but I don't think the WWE is going to pull a stunt like they did with Christian and have Kelly Kelly lose her title right after she won it.

She's barely held the belt for two weeks, and it certainly wouldn't be wise on the WWE's part to play a game of flip-flop with the Divas Championship.

Kelly Kelly's title defense against Brie Bella at Money in the Bank will be used simply as filler on a pay-per-view that should already be incredibly newsworthy, so why do a title change here?

This match will probably be sandwiched between a World title match and a MITB bout, and therefore, I'd expect Kelly Kelly to keep her short title reign going with a win over Brie.

3. The WWE Needs a Long Divas Championship Reign

3 of 5

The WWE has become notorious for short title reigns in recent years, with championship belts swapping hands more than Kim Kardashian changes athletes/boyfriends.

In fact, since the first two Divas title reigns—Michelle McCool for 155 days and Maryse for 216 days—no Diva has held the belt for more than 84 days.

Think it's about time to give someone, like Kelly Kelly, a long run with the strap? I sure do.

Prior to K2, there have been six Divas champions in roughly the last 12 months (dating back to June 20, 2010), which obviously translates to about two months per title reign and is absolutely ridiculous.

These insanely short title reigns are one of the many problems with the Divas division, and it's about time the WWE realizes it.

If they want the division to have any credibility whatsoever, they'll start by giving Kelly Kelly a lengthy title run and building her up as a legitimate champion.

2. To Setup a Divas Title Feud with Beth Phoenix

4 of 5

Anyone else notice that, in recent weeks, it's been Eve who's helped out Kelly Kelly in her feud with the Bellas?

Conspicuously absent from Monday nights as of late is Beth Phoenix.

My question is: Why?

My answer is: To turn her heel, and then have her feud with Kelly Kelly for the Divas Championship.

It's an incredibly easy feud to build. K2 can confront Beth about disappearing on her over the past couple of weeks, and Beth can apologize for it, only to attack Kelly Kelly after she successfully defends her Divas title against Brie Bella at Money in the Bank.

Obviously, the basis of this feud would be that Beth is jealous that the fans voted for Kelly Kelly on the "Power to the People" edition of Raw rather than for her, and thus, "gave" Kelly Kelly her first Divas title.

Beth can claim that K2 essentially stole the title, and this would setup a Divas title feud between the two at SummerSlam, one that is arguably the most marketable Divas match the WWE can put on at the moment.

1. Kelly Kelly Is Vince McMahon's Favorite Diva

5 of 5

What did CM Punk say about John Cena during his epic promo on last Monday's Raw? That the only thing John Cena was better than him at was kissing Vince McMahon's ass?

Well, Kelly Kelly may not be laying her lips on the boss's posterior. But it's because she doesn't need to.

According to a report from WrestleZone earlier in the year, Kelly Kelly "is said to be Vince McMahon's favorite Diva right now."

Seems Vince and I have something in common.

Anyway, that obviously could have changed by this point. But given that she's the Divas Champion, I highly doubt it.

Chances are that Kelly Kelly is still indeed Vinny Mac's favorite female wrestler, and that he's relying on her to be the face of the Divas division, much like Cena is the face of the company.

Therefore, Kelly Kelly likely isn't going to lose the Divas Championship anytime soon, because she'll only be out of the title picture if/when McMahon sours on her.
