Hot Dog Eating Video: Watch Former Champ Takeru Kobayashi Down 69 Hot Dogs
Takeru Kobayashi refuses to sign a deal with Major League Eating, which is why he was not a participant in the 2011 Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest yesterday.
However, that didn't stop Kobayashi from chowing down on some hot dogs. Once the time started for those competing at Coney Island, Kobayashi also raced to eat as many hot dogs as he could.
It's not official because he wasn't truly battling the other eaters, but Kobayashi ate 69 hot dogs yesterday. That is one more than the world record Joey Chestnut set a couple years ago.
Kobayashi ate seven more hot dogs than Chestnut did yesterday at a bar called 230 Fifth.
Those who do enjoy watching the Hot Dog Eating Contest, of course, love that an American has won the last five. However, it is a competition and Chestnut has been dominating for awhile.
Chestnut's takeover of the contest has seen people caring less about it, which is why some want Kobayashi to return.
People already have a tough time watching men and women stuff there face with hot dogs and wet buns. It's even worse when you know who is going to win every year.
A Kobayashi return next year would make the contest much more appealing. It's a gross competition but a huge American tradition. If it were an actual competition and not a disgusting domination by Chestnut, then maybe more people would tune in.
Oh wait, what's that you say? It's still and always will be sickening and repulsive event. Well, I guess that's America, but we love her anyway.
