Newly appointed Chelsea manager Andres Villas-Boas views Real Madrid defender Pepe as his first signing at Stamford Bridge according to the Guardian. The Portuguese defender has been a longstanding, consistent presence in the Spanish giants defence and is considered one of the strongest centre halves in World Football.

An imposing, tough and tenacious defender, the 28-year-old is viewed by Villas-Boas as the ideal defensive signing as the new Chelsea manager aims to shore up the Blues' defensive woes. However Madrid are eager to maintain their Portugal international and could demand up to £15 million for the defender.

Chelsea recently acquired young star David Luiz in January for £25 million and Villas-Boas aims to create a powerful partnership between the duo alongside the ever present Chelsea captain John Terry. Furthermore Chelsea defender Alex could be heading for an exit to make room for Pepe. Birmingham City defender Scott Dann has also been linked with the London giants
