2011 British Open Leaderboard Scores: Dustin Johnson's Chokes with 5 Holes Left

Phil Mickelson’s back-nine disaster has been getting a lot of press because he’s Phil Mickelson and he choked again, but there was a collapse on Sunday even worse than his. Dustin Johnson was in position to give Darren Clarke a run for his money, but with just five holes remaining in the tournament, he broke down. He double-bogeyed the 14th hole and he was already finished by the time he bogeyed the 18th.
What will hurt the most is that after starting off with two early bogeys, Johnson hit three birdies in the next six holes setting himself up for a shot at the win.
According to ESPN, his former caddie was interviewed just as the day began about Johnson and being just one stroke behind the leader saying:
“Hey, he's going to be tough to beat today. Obviously he's swinging well. He hasn't been putting well all year and…Hey, listen, he's not the most dedicated player on the planet -- and thank God for the rest of us that he's not that dedicated, you know what I mean? That's all I can say. Hey, he's my boy, man. We'll always be tight. The reason people know who I am is because of him. He put a couple of bucks in my bank account, you know, and I'll never forget that.”
Talk about irony. A golfer that’s “not the most dedicated player on the planet” failed to finish on the big stage with all eyes on him.
If Johnson would’ve just hit for par the rest of the way from hole No. 14 on, he would’ve finished tied with Darren Clarke forcing a playoff. He didn’t though so the 27-year old who has yet to win a major will feel the pain of this loss for a while.
