WWE: Sin Cara Loses First Match, Punk's Video Package and More from Smackdown

The Doctor Chris MuellerJun 1, 2018

Last night, Smackdown aired and it kept up the steady build to the Money in the Bank PPV later this month.

The biggest news of the night might not have been Christian's contract signing being interrupted, but the fact that he beat Sin Cara to give the Mexican Superstar his first loss in WWE.

Since debuting Sin Cara has fought numerous opponents, each time coming out on top, but last night he met his match in the wily veteran Christian.

The match was good, with both men getting in their signature offensive moves. The end came after Christian failed to hit the Killswitch, only to hit the Spear instead. Cara will still probably keep his momentum going, but I am surprised it wasn't considered a bigger deal that he got his first loss.

Another thing that needs to be discussed from last night is the video package shown highlighting moments from CM Punk's promo on Monday.

The video showed some of the comments about how he doesn't think Cena is the best and how he thinks WWE would be better after Vince dies.

I was a little surprised that they kept in the bit about Vince dying, but it makes for good drama. The fact that WWE is taking the time to further the storyline, and even give attention to it, shows me that they understand the opportunity they have in front of them.

By pushing this story, and also Punk in general, the WWE may end up doing what they need to do to keep him in the end.

Vince may not like it when he is disrespected by his employees, but I bet he likes making money better than he dislikes Punk.

Sheamus also made his presence known by taking out both Orton and Christian during their contract signing. With Sheamus already being in the Money in the Bank match for Smackdown, I am a little surprised to see him getting involved, but this could be a sign that he may win the case and the title shot.

Sheamus has been on a slow downward slope ever since he lost the WWE title. Being drafted to Smackdown has helped him get some of his fire back, but is it enough to get him another run with the gold?

I think Sheamus has proven that he is a reliable solid talent who can draw heat and perform when he is needed, but I don't know how other people feel about him. He has his supporters and his detractors, so it is a toss up.

I see him either winning the MITB or at least getting involved in the title match. If he costs Orton the title, then I could see him demanding a title shot from Christian for helping.

The last thing I want to talk about from last night is the storyline between Daniel Bryan, Ted DiBiase and Cody Rhodes.

Rhodes has really elevated his game since putting on that ridiculous mask, and if that is what it takes for someone to become a better heel, then I say hand them out to more people, because he has impressed me week after week.

DiBiase is a solid worker, but he is kind of boring in comparison to Cody. These two have been going back and forth with Daniel Bryan, and I hope it continues, because it is a chance to see some good matches.

I hope DiBiase turns on Rhodes some time soon, because he and Bryan could actually make a good tag team. They both have good mat skills, and their difference in size actually matches up with many tag teams of the past.

Whatever the outcome is, I hope WWE keeps Rhodes heel for a long time because he is clearly more in his comfort zone than he was as a babyface.

That's all for now, folks. Thanks for reading and feel free to comment.
