English Premier League: 6 Most Notorious Players in Recent Times

Nicolas AnilJul 4, 2011

Footballers are known to live extravagant lifestyles off the pitch, pushing decency to the extreme at times.

While most are remembered for their legacy on the pitch, some are recognized for the shenanigans they pulled off it.

Drugs, alcoholism & sex orgies, these supposed role models have tarnished their name somewhere along their career.

Here are the top 6 football players who have made the headlines for all the wrong reasons.

I have left out the John Terry’s, the Ashley Cole’s & Wayne Rooney’s as they have been mentioned incessantly in the past.

Do let me know if there any others worth including:-

Ashley Young—the Webcam Show Off

1 of 6

Manchester United’s latest signing was a web sensation during his Aston Villa days.

Footballers usually prefer a relaxing night with the family before a big match, not Ashley Young.

He warmed up for these matches by turning on his web cam, stripping naked and pleasuring himself to anyone who bothered watching.

Using the alias ‘Lewis’, Young managed to freak a hair-dresser so much she spilled everything to the media.

According to her, Lewis claimed to be businessman who wanted to lick her c**t and play with her t**s.

He didn't really get into trouble for that act but the word ‘professional’ will never ever be associated with Ashley Young anymore.

Joey Barton–Cigar Stubber, Part-Time Hoodlum

2 of 6

Now very much an improved man, Joey Barton had such a despicable reputation at once he would have made Dennis Rodman seem like an angel.

He served 74 days in prison after assaulting a teenager outside a McDonald’s outlet in 2007.

Joey Barton pleaded guilty, and confessed to drinking 10 pints & 5 lagers prior to the attack.

Not satisfied with assault off the pitch, he decided to throw his weight in it as well.

In 2008 he was suspended for four months after admitting bodily assault on former teammate Ousmane Dabo, which effectively ended the player’s career.

Not to mention the eyes of a youth player he decided to use as an ashtray and stub his cigar in.

A class act back in the days, undoubtedly.

Steven Gerrard–Muhammad Ali/David Guetta Wannabe

3 of 6

Steven Gerrard had just scored two goals against Newcastle to put Liverpool comfortably at the top in 2009.

He and a few buddies decided to go and celebrate in a bar. Everything was going fine until Gerrard decided he wanted to take over the deejay console and show his spinning skills.

Marcus McGee, who was clearly not a Liverpool fan, refused to let him do so. Gerrard then transformed into a boxer, landing a few blows. All hell broke loose.

The manager suffered injuries, and Gerrard and his pals had to be escorted out of the nightclub.

Somehow he was cleared of affray charges and walked scot-free. He has since hung up the "gloves" and decided to focus completely on football.

Mark Bosnich & Dwight Yorke – the Cross Dressers

4 of 6

Dwight Yorke was always known a party animal and a women’s man, especially after his relationship with former playmate Jordan.

But the jovial striker was also a  fan of skirt and dresses, especially when it came to orgies.

He together with team-mate Mark Bosnich invited four women to Yorke’s mansion and embarked on a night long , cross-dressing orgy session.

Yorke recorded everything and after admiring his performance, threw the video into the rubbish bin.

As fate would have it, a member of the media discovered the tape and both players were splashed across newspapers the following day.

Their careers dwindled and both were shipped off by the unforgiving Sir Alex Ferguson.

Lee Bowyer–the Next Manny Pacquiao

5 of 6

Lee Bowyer was the lynch-pin of Leeds United’s midfield at once, but he was also the nastiest part of the team.

In January 2000, student Mohd Najeib was beaten unconscious outside a Leeds United club, by Bowyer and then-teammate Jonathan Woodgate.

The victim claimed the attack was racially motivated, and the case took a year-plus to reach its verdict.

In the end, both were cleared of affray charges and instead ordered to serve 100 hours of community service.

Then in 2005, Bowyer hogged the spotlight again. This time it was on the pitch, a free-for-all with Kieron Dyer.

Bowyer claimed the fight started after Dyer refused to pass him the ball.

He was banned for six games, fined six week’s wages and was charged with using threatening behavior.

His career somehow took an upscale turn, and he recently did something good, helping Birmingham win the League Cup.

Marlon King–Beating Up Women

6 of 6

Marlon King will perhaps go down in the Premier League’s history as one of football’s most disgusting players.

In 2009, 20-year-old Emily Carr was having a good time with her friends in a London nightclub when she felt someone grope her buttocks from behind.

She turned around to see Marlon King smirking at her.

When she told him to leave her alone, he savagely attacked her and left her with serious facial injuries, including a broken nose.

King was found guilty and sentenced to 18 months in prison. He only served half the sentence and was released due to good behavior.

The heartless animal somehow has made his way back to the football scene and is close to signing with Birmingham City.

Heavens only knows why the Blues are so fascinated with these types of players.
