Copa America 2011 Discusses State of Mexican Soccer
On the field the Mexicans should be happy with their team and their team's performance, but off the field is a completely different story.
While the Mexicans were celebrating their victory over the United States in the Gold Cup, the U-22 team was partying at a hotel in Ecuador.
Most of the Mexico side that will be sent to play in the Copa America tournament is coming from the U-22 squad instead of the Men's National Team, which will leave the Mexican side short on players once again.
According to ESPN, eight players have been suspended for six months and will be unable to compete in the Copa America tournament.
Here are the players that have been suspended by Mexico: Israel Jimenez, Nestor Vidrio, Jonathan Dos Santos, Marco Fabian, Jorge Hernandez, Javier Cortes, David Cabrera and Nestor Calderon.
The name Dos Santos should be familiar to soccer fans as Giovanni Dos Santos scored the fourth goal for the Mexican side against the United States in a 4-2 victory. Jonathan Dos Santos is the younger brother Giovanni.
The Mexican team has been running into a lot of problems off the field lately. Mexico had players suspended for the Gold Cup due to allegations over using banned substances, and have now run into problems with hiring prostitutes.
According to Yahoo, the twist in this latest story is that the prostitutes allegedly stole room keys and had thieves come back later to steal cash and electronics from the star soccer players.
