Somehow, the Nets are undefeated. Sure, it's only one game, but I'll be surprised every time this ragtag crew wins a game this year. I'm not the biggest basketball fan to begin with, and this squad isn't going to give me much of a reason to pay attention. I'll begin following my Nets in a couple of years, when LeBron arrives.
Actually, it's not just LeBron (or someone else from the superb free agent class of 2010) that the Nets can look forward to. After a great draft this year, the rookies should form a solid, young core in two years' time.
Plus, if the Nets stink (as expected), they could get two more very good picks before bringing in the big name star. This team is two years away from being really good.
But until then, this team features new captain Vince Carter, young point guard Devin Harris, and, um, that's it. I don't know how they won last night, and I don't expect it to happen very often.
As the season goes, and the losses begin to stack up, you'll see Vince Carter begin to get cranky. A lazy star, a young rookie, and no one else: Not a great equation. Let's hope the upcoming sad sack season leads to the eventual firing of little Lawrence Frank.
