Colorado Rockies opening day second baseman Jayson Nix has signed with the Chicago White Sox. Nix won the starting position after winning a six-man tryout during Spring Training for the second-base position, including Clint Barmes and Jeff Baker.

Nix spent the majority of April with the big club, struggling mightily at the plate, before being designated for assignment. He was eventually sent back down to Triple-A Colorado Springs.

He was recalled from Triple-A shortly before the All Star break but struggled once again with the bat and found his way back to Colorado Springs.

Nix, who was well liked in the clubhouse, was tabbed by Team USA manager Davey Johnson to play for the Olympic squad, a team that he had great success for the summer before in the World Championships.

He was hit in the face by a pitch while attempting to bunt during the Games and unfortunately missed out on the rest of the Bronze-medal campaign.

If Nix makes the squad, he most likely will be playing behind Alexei Ramirez, unless the White Sox decide to shift Ramirez to shortstop to replace Orlando Cabrera, who has long been rumored to be on the move.
