Players the Lions Should Consider Drafting

With the Lions continuing to lose games, fans are forced to look to the draft to find hope. With alll the losing comes a high draft pick. Lets take a look at some of the players who the Lions should be considering with a top 3 pick.

ESPN's Todd McShay has released his first mock draft and at number 2 is the Detroit. McShay has the Lions selecting the Sooners QB Sam Bradford. While I could definitely see the Lions drafting Bradford if he comes out, I don't think selecting a QB is the move the Lions need to make.

It is my view that championships are built in the trenches. Because of this belief I think the Lions should draft a dominant defensive player, such as Michael Johnson or Brian Orakpo. They could also, grab some O-line help in Andre Smith (if he isn't taken #1), Eugene Monroe, or Michael Oher.

Another options the Lions have is a pair of top tier corner backs, in Vontae Davis and Malcolm Jenkins. The Lions secondary has been horrible, so it would not be to far fetched to see them draft Jenkins or Davis if they stay in the top 5-8 picks.

I like what I have seen out of Orakpo it seems he has a motor that never slows. Johnson is rated higher, but hasn't lived up to his potential yet. The only way I think the Lions should draft Bradford is this: first, both Dan Orlovsky and Drew Stanton show IN games they are not a part of the solution, secondly they do not sign Daunte Culpepper. Culpepper is not a long term answer, but he is a solid QB and would allow the Lions to fix some other holes.

I think the Lions drafting priority should be D-line, D-backfield (CB, safety), O-line. I think Johnson and Orakpo need to be high on the Lions watch list.
