Chelsea Transfer Rumours: Villas-Boas to Activate Fabio Coentrao Release Clause
New Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas could make Benfica's Fabio Coentrao his first signing of the summer, after it emerged the Blues are willing to activate the left-back's £27million release clause.
According to the Daily Mirror, Villas-Boas is prepared to battle mentor Jose Mourinho, whose Real Madrid side have long been tracking Coentrao, for the Portuguese full-back's signature, with the player's versatility along the left flank coming in handy for both Chelsea and Real.
Los Galacticos already had a player-plus-cash deal rejected, prompting the Blues to simply offer cash and match the release clause set in Coentrao's contract.
