Arsenal Transfer Rumours: Gunners Bid Club Record £18million for Juan Mata
Arsenal have reportedly bid a club record £18million for Valencia and Spain U-21 star Juan Mata, as the Gunners look to add a marquee signing to their squad this summer.
According to the Daily Mail, club officials from Arsenal contacted Mata's agent and father, also named Juan, as the player is now willing to discuss his future following Spain's win at the U-21 European Championship in Denmark.
Mata's goalscoring record and assist-making ability as a winger have apparently caught Arsene Wenger's eye, as the Emirates outfit seem more than willing to smash their transfer record to sign the one-time Journalism student.
Arsenal's current transfer record fee paid for a player is £13million, set in January 2009 when they signed Andrei Arshavin from Zenit St. Petersburg.
