Abby Wambach had the best shot of putting the United States ahead in the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup, but her great strike from the corner of the box did not hit net.

Even though it completely eluded Ayumi Kaihori the ball hit the underside of the crossbar and ricocheted safety away for Japan.

That was the best look for the United States, but it wasn’t the only opportunity that they had to take the early lead in the Final game of the Women’s World Cup.

Carli Lloyd had a clear shot at  the net but kicked it over the crossbar, and Megan Rapinoe followed that up soon after with a wide miss of her own.

Finally, Lauren Cheney had an opportunity with a header from a beautiful pass into the box just before the half ended.

Even though the USA is getting good looks on goal, they could be setting themselves up for trouble if they can’t find a finishing touch.

Japan is an extremely patient team that works very long and hard to set up goals, and I guarantee you they will try to capitalize on the United States aggressiveness.

Being aggressive is exactly what the Americans need to do, but if they can’t figure out a way to finish it’s going to leave them vulnerable.

Right now Hope Solo is playing extremely well and she should be able to stop mostly anything that comes her way, but if I were the U.S I wouldn’t be putting all that pressure.

Breaking News as of right now:

Lauren Cheney has apparently been hurt and is out. Alex Morgan will be replacing here starting in the second half.
