Despite five horses being entered in the $150,000 feature today at Hollywood, it appears this might be a two-horse race between co-favorites Plum Pretty and Zazu.
Plum Pretty is a 3-year-old trained by Bob Baffert and appears in very good form. She's won her last two races, including a 25-length romp on March 27 and a narrow win on May 6 in the Kentucky Oaks. Plum Pretty is 1-for-1 at Hollywood and at 1 1/16 miles.
Zazu is trained by John Sadler and will be ridden by Joel Rosario. This consistent 3-year-old has run four consecutive solid races and appears to the main threat. In her last race, a loss in the Kentucky Oaks to Plum Pretty, Zazu closed well but was steadied in deep stretch.
Big Tiz might have a significant impact on this race, as she appears to be the pace setter. With only one win in eight career starts, this Mark Glatt trained horse is looking for her first stakes win. The recent workouts on this horse have been exceptional, with a bullet work on June 19 of 58.3 for five furlongs.
I don't think Love Theway Youare and Wallstreeter have much of a chance to factor in the race.
Love Theway Youare was disappointing in her last race, losing by over a dozen lengths on May 20 and despite a win at 1 1/16 miles at Hollywood, the time of that race was just 1:45 flat.
Wallstreeter is losing seven pounds for this race and has also had some nice recent workouts but is winless on the dirt and appears outmatched.
In the Kentucky Oaks, Plum Pretty was able to hold off Zazu but I think Zazu will closer to the pace today and win in a very tight finish. Big Tiz will finish third.
