1 of 10

The Allstate Arena, located in Rosemont, Illinois, is the proud home of the Chicago Rush, Chicago Wolves and the Chicago Sky and is one of the largest indoor Entertainment Facilities in the Chicago area of the United States of America. The construction cost for this massive building is $19 million. This building can hold a number of 18,500 people for concerts. As we all know, a lot of concerts were kept in this arena.

This arena hosted memorable musical guests such as Nickelback, Taylor Swift, Joan Sebastian, Fleetwood Mac, Britney Spears, Pink, Alicia Keys, Keith Urban and Metallica.

Other from being a home of the three teams listed above, it is also the home of WWE. WWE held a lot of shows in this arena. This article will be to remind you of the history the Allstate Arena has had with WWE PPV’s. In this article I will just highlight the famous title matches that occurred in this Arena.

Wrestlemania 2

2 of 10

This was the second annual Wrestlemania; it took placed on April 7th 1986. Although this Wrestlemania had three venues, the Allstate Arena, known as the Rosemont Horizon back in 1986, was one of the Venues to feature a few matches.

On this night we saw The Fabulous Moolah retain her Women’s Championship against Velvet McIntyre, and The British Bulldogs (Davey Boy Smith and The Dynamite Kid) defeated The Dream Team (Greg Valentine and Brutus Beefcake) for the WWF Tag Team Championships. Although this arena did not host the main matches of the night it did host a great number of matches and held an unknown number of attendance that night.

Wrestlemania 13

3 of 10

Wrestlemania 13 drew 18,197 WWF fans into the Allstate Arena to witness the 13th annual show of Wrestlemania. As many of us would know, Wrestlemania 13 was famous for one match and that match was Bret Hart vs. Steve Austin. Although that match was not a Championship match I still mention it because it was just that damn good.

The first Title match of that night was Rocky Maivia vs. The Sultan for the Intercontinental Title, which The Rock retained in just under ten minutes.

We also saw a WWF Tag Team Title match that went to a double count out between Owen Hart and The British Bulldog (Champions) vs. Mankind and Vader.

The night also saw The Undertaker win the WWF Championship from Sycho Sid.

Backlash 2001

4 of 10

On April 29th,2001, 15,592 packed this arena to watch the Backlash of Wrestlemania 17.

At Backlash 2001 Rhyno defended his Hardcore Title against Raven. We saw Matt Hardy defeat Christian and Eddie Guerrero in a Triple Treat Match to retain his European Championship.

Now the Main Event saw The Two Man Power Trip (WWE Champion Steve Austin and WWE Intercontinental Champion HHH) defeat The WWE Tag Team Champions Kane and The Undertaker to claim the Tag team Titles.  If HHH and Steve Austin had lost they would have lost their individual Titles. This was a really nice match to watch.

Wrestlemania 22

5 of 10

The Allstate Arena was the proud host for Wrestlemania 22. The total attendance for the night was 17,159 WWE fans. The night was hot. The fans were crazy.

The first title match of the night was the World Tag Team Championship match where Big Show and Kane defended against Carlito and Chris Masters. JBL defeated Chris Benoit to become the new United States Champion.

The great Trish Stratus lost her Women’s Championship to her number one fan in the World Mickie James.

The main events saw the Royal Rumble winner Rey Mysterio defeating World Heavyweight Champion Kurt Angle and Randy Orton in a Triple Treat Match for the Gold.

The big main event of the night saw the King of Kings HHH lost to WWE Champion John Cena. Overall this was a great night in the history of the arena for WWE. History was made for WWE. Wrestlemania 22 was over and history was made.

No Mercy 2007

6 of 10

At No Mercy, 12,500 witnessed history with the WWE Championship and two of the greatest wrestlers in the business.

In the opening bout of the PPV, Vince crowned Randy Orton the new WWE Champion. He would hold the title for just about 2 minutes before HHH came and challenged him for the WWE Title. HHH went on to beat him for the Title and WWE started off the PPV with a blast.

In the third match of the PPV CM Punk defeated Big Daddy V to retain his ECW Championship. HHH then defended his WWE Championship against Umaga, who was scheduled to face HHH in a one-on-one match that night.

In the only Divas match of the night Beth Phoenix defeated Candice Michelle for the Women’s Championship.

The second to last match of the night was a Punjabi Prison Match with The Great Khali failing to regain his World Heavyweight Championship against Batista.

Now the main event was contested between HHH and Randy Orton for the WWE Championship in a Last Man Standing Match in which Randy Orton won the WWE Championship for the night. Overall there was some good action for the Allstate Arena that night.

Judgement Day 2009

7 of 10

WWE’s annual Judgement Day was held in this arena on May 17th 2009. On this night 13,433 WWE fans saw four title matches.

The first title match to start the night off was Christian defending his ECW Championship against The All-American American Jack Swagger.

The second title match of the night saw Rey Mysterio beating Chris Jericho for the IC Title in one of the best matches of the night. The third title match of the night saw WWE Champion Randy Orton lose to Batista by DQ. For sure a Championship cannot change hands in such manner.

Last but not least World Heavyweight Champion Edge defeated Jeff Hardy with the championship on the line.

Now this was the last PPV WWE kept in this arena and it had a few title changes. Dolph Ziggler defended his IC Championship against Kofi Kingston to open the show. Daniel Bryan then went on to win the United States championship from the Miz.
