UFC on Versus 4: Profile of Pat Barry
UFC Live 4: Profile of Pat Barry
Bleacher Report's Todd Seyler:
At 5’11” 250 pounds, Pat Barry is an undersized heavyweight within the deep UFC pool. However, what this Roufusport protégé lacks in size, he makes up for in stand-up skill.
A tremendously gifted kick boxer, Barry’s fighting career began with a six year stint as a professional kick boxer accumulating an 18-6 overall record with nine knockout victories.
Evolving into a mixed martial artist, Barry relies on his explosive kicks and thunderous punches inside the Octagon to secure a victory.
A relative rookie as a mixed martial artist, Barry has shown tremendous potential in his loss to Mirko Cro Cop as well as in his victory against the tough and rugged Joey Beltran.
One glaring weakness of Pat Barry’s skill-set is his inability to prevent a take-down as well as his holes in the ground game.
His next opponent, Cheick Kongo, will not expose his weakness. Kongo, like Barry, has a foundation in kick-boxing. Therefore, these two heavy handed strikers with excellent leg kicks will stand and trade in the center of the cage at UFC Live 4.
For Barry to continue to rise within the UFC heavyweight division, he needs to balance out his ground game with his elite level stand-up striking.
