NHL Trade Rumors: Philadelphia Flyers Trade Mike Richards and Jeff Carter
Well, it's official. Paul Holmgren blew it all up.
The Philadelphia Flyers have sent forward Jeff Carter to the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for Jakub Voracek, the 8th overall pick in the 2011 NHL Draft, and third round selection in the 2011 NHL Draft.
Paul Holmgren then deal his captain, Mike Richards, to the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for Brayden Schenn and Wayne Simmonds as well as a 2012 second round pick.
Take a second to absorb what just happened Flyers' fans. Now, take a deep breath, and let's take a look at these moves.
The Flyers get solid return for Jeff Carter, especially if Sean Couturier slides to number eight. Meanwhile, they get a top six forward who is still very young and a third round pick. This one makes sense.
The Mike Richards trade makes a little less sense, but apparently there was more to the locker room divide than we all thought.
Philly was able to acquire the best prospect in hockey, Brayden Schenn, and a Wayne Simmonds, who is another top six caliber player, but couldn't they have gotten more for their captain?
I'll analyze some reasons for the trade and where the Flyers go from here in a future post. Stay tuned and avoid sharp objects, Flyers' fans.
