This slideshow is how the No. 1 picks came out since the year 2000.

It is for people who are interested in the history of the first pick, concluding with a prediction of the player who is likely to be the first pick of the 2011 NBA draft: Kyrie Irving.

It will start from the year of Yao Ming in the 2002 draft and will be based on questions such as:

Where is the player right now (team)?

    What are his current stats?

How was his history and reputation as a player so far in his career?

What position is he in now, and how is he doing overall?

Was he a successful first pick in the draft?

What are the awards he won, and did he win rookie of the year ever?

These questions will all be answered, some by opinions and some by facts (awards).

All stats are based on their most important ones and are rounded.

    Please read through and enjoy.

2002: The Year of Yao Ming

1 of 10

Where is the player right now (team)?

Yao Ming is currently playing for the Houston Rockets.

    What are his current stats?

Yao Ming has barely played in the 2010-11 season. In the 2009-2010 season, he averaged 20 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks.

What position is he in now, and how is he doing overall?

He is currently having injury issues. Though, rarely when he has been healthy, he has been doing fairly well, averaging a double-double.

Was he a successful first pick in the draft?

His first few years he was successful, as expected from the 7'6" center. Following his first four seasons, his status was plagued with injuries.

What are the awards he won, and did he win rookie of the year ever?

He didn't win rookie of the year, though he was second in the race. Yao Ming is an eight-time All-Star and was on the NBA All-Rookie team five times in his career.

How was his history and reputation as a player so far in his career?

Over a short term, he was very successful. However, the Rockets have advanced past the first round of the playoffs only once since he joined the team, and he has missed significant time due to injury in each of the past six seasons. He has been successful as a big man in his first few seasons.

2003: The Year of LeBron James

2 of 10

Where is the player right now (team)?

He is currently on the Miami Heat.

    What are his current stats?

27 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and two blocks per game.

How was his history and reputation as a player so far in his career?

Despite an ego issue, LeBron James has a great reputation. Ever since 2005, he has been an All-Star every year. He has low injury, high talents and can almost do anything on the court.

What position is he in now, and how is he doing overall?

He is a candidate for MVP. He is doing amazing, even on a super team. Overall, since he was a rookie, he is a stable top five player in the NBA.

Was he a successful first pick in the draft?

Of course. He has won many awards and entered many playoffs, though he has never won a title, and doesn't have a fourth quarter when you need one.

What are the awards he won, and did he win rookie of the year ever?

LeBron James has won two consecutive MVP awards. He has entered seven All-Star games and seven All-NBA team appearances. He has also won the rookie of the year award and the All-Defensive player award three times.

2004: The Year of Dwight Howard

3 of 10

Where is the player right now (team)?

Dwight Howard is currently playing for the Orlando Magic.

    What are his current stats?

23 points, 14 rebounds and two blocks per game.

How was his history and reputation as a player so far in his career?

He's a big man, provides a lot of clutch plays and rebounds for the team. Without him, the Magic team would most likely be a terrible team—just like the Cavs and LeBron James. He also has a great personality and is a great piece to have on a team.

What position is he in now, and how is he doing overall?

He doing great. When a player is averaging 13 rebounds per game in his career, he is a huge success. Overall, he is a lock in the top 10 players in the NBA.

Was he a successful first pick in the draft?

For sure. He puts up excellent stats, plays like the superstar he is and is a great player to work with.

What are the awards he won, and did he win rookie of the year ever?

Three NBA Defensive Player of the Year, five NBA All-Star Selections and he won Slam Dunk Champion.

2005: The Year of Andrew Bogut

4 of 10

Where is the player right now (team)?

He is currently playing for the Milwaukee Bucks.

    What are his current stats?

13 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks per game in 65 games of the season.

How was his history and reputation as a player so far in his career?

He is often injured. When he is on the court, he is explosive and averages nine boards per game in his career.

What position is he in now, and how is he doing overall?

Overall, he is doing decent. The only con is in the last three years of his career, he didn't play more than 70 games in a season.

Was he a successful first pick in the draft?

I wouldn't say he was a bust, but he didn't deserve first pick. He's too injury prone, but when he is on the court, he is an acceptable first pick.

What are the awards he won, and did he win rookie of the year ever?

He hasn't won rookie of the year or any major awards in his career.

2006: The Year of Andrea Bargnani

5 of 10

Where is the player right now (team)?

Andrea Bargnani is currently playing for the Toronto Raptors.

    What are his current stats?

21 points and five rebounds per game.

How was his history and reputation as a player so far in his career?

He has been doing OK. In his first two seasons, he looked like a bust but is starting to improve since then. He is a great scorer and has a great jump shot, but besides that, he doesn't have much more positive aspects.

What position is he in now, and how is he doing overall?

He is currently the star of the team. When one plays everyday 35-40 minutes per game, he should do more than just points.

Was he a successful first pick in the draft?

Overall, I think he was a bust. He doesn't do much besides points and wasn't successful in his first few years, but he might be good in fantasy. In a real game, he's a good player and nothing more than that.

What are the awards he won, and did he win rookie of the year ever?

He wasn't rookie of the year, and he hasn't won any major awards yet in his career.

2007: The Year of Greg Oden

6 of 10

Where is the player right now (team)?

Greg Oden currently plays for the Portland Trail Blazers.

    What are his current stats?

He was injured for the whole 2010-11 season. Over the 2009-10 season, he averaged 11 points, nine rebounds and two blocks in 21 games.

How was his history and reputation as a player so far in his career?

He is a big bust. Over three years of his playing time, he has only played 82 games. It seems like you never see him on the court because he is always injured.

What position is he in now, and how is he doing overall?

He's injured. Terrible. I would be happy to just see him play, period.

Was he a successful first pick in the draft?

He was a huge bust. Swamped with injuries throughout the whole year and never really affected the Blazers, besides worrying about his injuries.

What are the awards he won, and did he win rookie of the year ever?

To me, the biggest bust since Kwame Brown. Otherwise, no, he didn't win anything.

2008: The Year of Derrick Rose

7 of 10

Where is the player right now (team)?

Derrick Rose currently plays for the Chicago Bulls

    What are his current stats?

25 points, eight assists and one steal per game.

How was his history and reputation as a player so far in his career?

He has a great reputation. He is arguably the best point guard in the last 10 years. He also won rookie of the year in one of the top rookie years.

What position is he in now, and how is he doing overall?

Now, he is the best player in NBA—the MVP award proves it. He is already a star at 22. Also, he has led the Bulls to the playoffs ever since he's been on their team.

Was he a successful first pick in the draft?

Yes. He is easily a current top five player in NBA. He is also a great point guard and a pick the Bulls will never regret.

What are the awards he won, and did he win rookie of the year ever?

NBA Most Valuable Player, NBA Rookie of the Year and a two-time NBA All-Star Selection.

2009: The Year of Blake Griffin

8 of 10

Where is the player right now (team)?

Blake Griffin is currently playing for the Los Angeles Clippers.

    What are his current stats?

23 points and 12 rebounds per game.

How was his history and reputation as a player so far in his career?

He has only played one year so far in his career, as he was injured in his first year. He is a success so far as from his stats and played excellent in his career.

What position is he in now, and how is he doing overall?

He is one of the top dunkers in the NBA. He is a great rebounder, and a great fantasy and regular player on the court.

Was he a successful first pick in the draft?

Despite being injured for the first season of his career, he has been a success. For someone to have such a rookie season, his outlook is an imminent future star.

What are the awards he won, and did he win rookie of the year ever?

NBA rookie of the year, one-time All-Star and Sprite Slam Dunk contest winner.

2010: The Year of John Wall

9 of 10

Where is the player right now (team)?

John Wall currently plays for the Washington Wizards.

    What are his current stats?

16 points, eight assists and five rebounds per game.

How was his history and reputation as a player so far in his career?

So far, so good. He had some difficulty facing injuries though, but he's a stud. He knows what he's doing and has a great basketball IQ. To me, he acts like a 30-year-old star.

What position is he in now, and how is he doing overall?

Even now, right after his rookie year, he is a top 20 player. He is one of the best point guards in the league. He is in a great position, especially as a sophomore.

Was he a successful first pick in the draft?

In this draft, he was the best pick. He is already a beast and plays like a star. He is useful and a player you want on the court.

What are the awards he won, and did he win rookie of the year ever?

He would've won rookie of the year if not for Blake Griffins' injury. He won the T-Mobiles Rookie Challenge award.

2011: TBA (Prediction of Kyrie Irving)

10 of 10

Kyrie Irving has many pros, and it looks like it will be the year of Kyrie Irving.

Let's start with Kyrie Irving as a point guard. He is unselfish and maturing by the second. He is a great passer. He handles the ball outstandingly.

He is a great playmaker. He is a tough player to take. He also has the ability of a great drive-in. He has great vision of the court and always finishes in a positive way.

That's not it. He also has a good pull up jump shot and is a decent outside shooter. He also makes almost every free throw he takes.

He has some weaknesses, though. He isn't a star-studded defender, and he is also prone to injury.

He is currently an Australian 6'2" point guard, and he has already have been on the All-NBA team.
