2011 Gold Cup Quarterfinal Preview: Jamaica vs. United States

Sunday's quarterfinal matchup between the United States and Jamaica features two teams in unfamiliar positions.

Jamaica enters top dog, the only team to not concede a goal in group play, while the U.S. dropped their first ever group stage game to Panama and needed a narrow 1-0 win over Guadeloupe to advance into the knockout stages.

Still, the Americans enter favorites, and while Jamaica has never defeated the Yanks, the Reggae Boyz present some interesting tactical challenges for the Yanks. Both teams have a great deal of flexibility (read: inconsistency) with their starting XIs, so much of the pre-game preparation will be designing sides that are as strong as they can be, rather than adjusting to what the other opponent will put forth. This means a fast start will be crucial, something that the Americans have not been adept at in recent matches.
