NBA Draft 2011: Baron Davis Says Cleveland Cavaliers Should Take Klay Thompson
Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Baron Davis wants the Cavs to select Klay Thompson with the No. 4 pick in the 2011 NBA Draft.
ESPN The Magazine published a lottery mock draft based on current NBA players' wishes. Davis takes one for the team at No. 1, advising Cleveland to select fellow point guard Kyrie Irving.
The consensus is that Cleveland will select a big man (Enes Kanter or Jonas Valanciunas) at No. 4. But Davis takes a leap, hoping the Cavaliers will select the sharpshooting Thompson:
"Klay is the best 2-guard in the draft," says Davis. "We need wing players. I love his height [6-6], athleticism [5.2 RPG] and ability to score [21.6 PPG]. He'll help spread the floor for us because defenses are going to have to know where he is at all times."
That's the highest I've seen Thompson go so far, but it only reinforces the general sentiment that he is going to be highly productive at the next level.
He really does have a fantastic jump shot. Even playing against a cone, one can see that Thompson's got moves that'll allow him to find space in the NBA.
