2011 NHL Mock Draft: Why Jonathan Huberdeau Will Be the Second Pick
The Colorado Avalanche currently hold the second pick in the 2011 NHL Draft. They could put it towards a defenseman, but they’ll use it for a top three forward.
For awhile, after Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, the top forward prospect was Gabriel Landeskog of the OHL’s Kitchener Rangers. However, after the Memorial Cup playoffs, Jonathan Huberdeau's play has elevated his position.
The MVP of the tournamen,t and star of the Memorial Cup-winning Saint John Sea Dogs, had a great season and postseason for the Sea Dogs. During the regular season, Huberdeau scored 105 points, a 70 point increase over his previous year.
On the way to the Sea Dogs’ Memorial Cup win, Huberdeau tallied 16 goals and 14 assists for 30 points, along with a +13 rating.
With those numbers, the Avalanche have to take Huberdeau.
