Barcelona's chase to finally secure former youth and Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas could intensify immensely as the Spanish giants are rumoured to be willing to offload star striker David Villa to Chelsea in order to acquire the necessary funds for Fabregas. Arsenal demand £35-45 million for their playmaker whilst Chelsea may have to spend up to £40 million for the efficient Villa.

The Spaniard excelled in his debut season for the European kings, securing 23 goals in 50 appearances as Barcelona achieved the La Liga and UEFA Champions League. However, with manager Pep Guardiola intent on securing Fabregas, who is considered one of the best midfielders in world football, the Spanish tactician is willing to sell the 29-year-old.

Chelsea, who signed Fernando Torres during January for a record £50 million, are expected to sell veteran strikers Didier Drogba and Nicholas Anelka should the deal materialize.
