Arsene Wenger knows Gael Clichy wants to leave Arsenal this summer, and he's happy to oblige so that he doesn't lose him next summer for nothing. However, Wenger is not so keen about selling him to a rival.
Italian side AS Roma have expressed interest and offered £7 million for the Frenchman, but Clichy wants to stay in England, with Liverpool reportedly his preferred destination.
The Reds has reportedly offered £5 million for the 25-year-old left back, and Clichy has been one of Kenny Dalglish's top targets this summer as he looks to solve Liverpool's long-standing problem at left back.
If the Reds can't get Clichy, they are likely to look at Newcastle's unsettled Jose Enrique. In turn, if Clichy goes to Liverpool, Arsenal would likely target Enrique as his replacement.
