Honduras Continues Historic Dominance of Costa Rica 

The long history of dominance by Honduras is alive and well. Once again, Honduras beat Costa Rica in a major competition. This time in the quarterfinals of the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup, the “Catrachos” eliminated the “Ticos” by penalty kicks following a 1-1 draw after the 90 minutes of regulation time. 

Jerry Bengtson (49 min) scored the first goal for Honduras. Dennis Marshall tied the match for Costa Rica (56 min) in regulation. 

Alvaro Saborio and Celso Borges missed penalty shots for Costa Rica. 

Costa Rica will face Guatemala or Mexico in the semifinals in Houston.
