Sabine Lisicki Highlight 2011 Wimbledon Results
It has been a Wimbledon of upsets on the women's side. Top seeds are falling like dominoes. It is clearly anyone's tournament to win. The most improbable of contenders pushing for that title is Sabine Lisicki.
Not because the powerful Lisicki doesn't have the game for success at Wimbledon—she does, but because of where she has been.
Lisicki missed five months of tennis last year after a horrific ankle injury. There were moments where she wasn't sure it would ever recover to 100 percent.

But it did recover, and she came out strong in this year's French Open...only to crumble. And not just a mild letdown type of crumbling, but a big heartbreaking crumble.
Lisicki had a 5-4 lead in the third set against the tournaments No. 3 seed only to collapse with leg cramps. Lisicki left the court on a stretcher and in defeat.
It seemed as if history would be repeating itself at Wimbledon. As Lisicki blew chances to put away Marion Bartoli in the second, but she bounced back and finished emphatically 6-4, 6-7 (4), 6-1.
"I don't know what to say," Lisicki told the BBC postmatch interview. "I am so speechless.
"I was very disappointed with myself at 5-4 because I missed so easily. I didn't just go for it. But I felt I was the better player and knew I had to focus and fight again in the third set."
And with that Lisicki got a monkey off her back. She is playing as good as any women in the field. Her game is well suited for the grass courts, and she may soon be tennis' next Grand Slam Champ.
