NBA Draft 2011: Why Kemba Walker Is the Most Overrated Prospect in This Draft
The Best Known Prospect in the 2011 NBA Draft is the Most Overrated
Before I go on, you must realize that I am rooting for Kemba Walker to succeed. He was so much fun to watch this past season. The way he carried Uconn was fabulous. All those game winners he hit were marvelous. Yet, I still think that he is totally and vast over-hyped.
When I look at Kemba Walker, I see a two-guard. I see a player who could take over the college game, but reminds me of Ben Gordon in almost every way. Walker will not be a point guard. While he showed that he can lead an offense sometimes, turnovers can be a problem. Could he facilitate an NBA offense? The college game is a different animal. If he becomes a point guard, would he be able to use his skills to abuse a decent defender? I don't think so. Another thing that Kemba will do is take terrible shots. Shot selection is something he must work on if he is to succeed at the next level.
Kemba is lightning to the basket. He finishes well, but in the NBA his small wingspan and short measureables will get his shot swatted as he drives the lane. Do you remember Walker being a decent defender? I sure don't. What happens when he has to guard Chris Paul, Derrick Rose, or Russell Westbrook? It will not be pretty.
I think that Kemba's shot is impressive and if he continues to work on it, he can be a great player off the bench. Fans are looking for him to be more than what he really is. He will have a good career as a bench player, but will never live up to the hype that surrounds him.
