NBA Rumors: Is Reggie Jackson Gauranteed to Be Drafted in the First Round?
Reggie Jackson is taking an interesting path leading up to the 2011 NBA Draft. Most projected late-first, early-second round picks work out for as many teams as possible in order to score a guaranteed contract that comes with a first round selection. Reggie Jackson is in this group but has decided to cancel all of his scheduled workouts with teams, stopped giving interviews, and is keeping information about his surgically repaired knee under wraps.
In any other draft, this would have catapulted Jackson out of the first round and down the rungs of the second. However, the 2011 NBA Draft class is the weakest in over 10 years and prospects like Jackson are cashing in on desperate teams looking to get lucky and take risks.
Jackson also may have a guarantee from a team to be drafted at a certain spot. Sources are saying that he may have a guarantee with anyone from a ceiling in Portland at the 21st overall pick down to his floor in Miami, selecting him with the first pick of the second round.
The Celtics, Thunder, and Nets are also possibly interested in adding Reggie Jackson to their squad. The Heat really like the Boston College prospect and as I wrote earlier may attempt to buy a pick off a team in the first round to have a better chance of scoring Jackson.
Jackson is an enigmatic prospect who will surely have us waiting on the edge of our seats to see where he lands on draft day.
